Where Would the Anti-Fascist Insurgents Hide Today?

___

The project "Where would the anti-fascist insurgents hide today? Remembering the various groups and minorities involved in the Slovak National Uprising" is Edeqec's first project, and we could not be happier about it. The project is supported by EVZ Foundation within the local.history program focusing on the era of National Socialism and the Second World War.

Aim of the project

___

Through this project, we want to emphasise and recall the role of diverse groups and minorities within the Slovak National Uprising, insurgency and resistance towards the fascist regime of the Slovak State. This allows us to highlight less famous stories of people who opposed the regime. Moreover, we link the data on minorities and individuals' fates with the scenery and stories of the forests.

Forests on the territory of today's Slovakia once provided a refuge for opponents of the fascist regime. Over the following decades, however, the green ecosystems also fought their own struggle. That is why we are asking: Where would the insurgents hide today? What has happened to the forests that once provided refuge? Where would we hide today if we were in need?

By combining historical, social and environmental themes, we seek new insights into our past and make the overlooked and erased topics visible over time.

Main project activities

___

Within the project, you can look forward to two main activities:

  • An online campaign that highlights the activities of women, Roma, Jews, Ruthenians and/or other minorities and groups in the SNP, insurgency and resistance, and points to the stories of the forests near historic places.
  • Historical tours (á la histo-tours) as a form of experiential learningwill present the stories of women, minorities, and other groups. Together with the participants, we will visit nature and forests around historic sites. We believe that besides histo-tours, we will manage to organise at least one historical run (á la histo-run).

In the end, we will tell you more about the overlooked stories of the Slovak National Uprising in the podcast and we will sum up our small victories and falls that we have experienced during the project.
